When Capital Tells the Government What To Do, You Get Trump

Somewhere, someone knows that Trump is the symptom, not the cause.

I’ve been away for a while, so this may seem like a rant. It’s going to seem that way because I’m out of practice. I’ve had to work through some changes in my life to get back to writing and publishing every day. Now that I’ve got that out of the way, I can talk about Trump.

Now some of you may already know that I’m not much of a Trump fan. There were a few tiny bright spots that I’ve seen in Trump and I did notice them. I’m open to common ground. I look for common ground in everyone because we’re all human. Those bright spots that I saw in Trump before? They’ve been totally eclipsed by the Trump Tariff Trauma that we’re going through now.

Trump seems to think we can turn on a dime and make things in America again. There is no doubt that we make some things in America, but a large proportion of the inputs used for American manufacturing come from China. We import so much from China, that we’re not likely to prevail in the trade war that Trump started.

“Look, the tariffs are not forever,” they tell us.
