These Things Complicate My Life

6 min readApr 30, 2025

In the end, there is only forgiveness.

I live a relatively simple life. I work. I walk. I eat. I read a lot. I write a lot. I don’t watch much TV. I have a family with a wife and kids. We have a house, a couple cars. We don’t live an extravagant life. We’re fairly frugal. And I make a point to err on the side of peace.

I read the news and I see people who have complicated their lives. They complicate life in an endless pursuit of wealth, violence, infidelity, intrigue, celebrity, and addiction. These are all vices, and vices complicate life. They all require a state of mind that justifies activities that hurt other people or place them at a disadvantage. Vices imply a zero sum game.

I see a lot of people telling other people what to do, but without taking responsibility for what they told other people to do. One of the things that I do to keep my life simple is to not tell other people what to do.

I seek control of no one. I don’t want to control other people because I don’t want that much responsibility. If I see people acting dangerously, or without civility, I get out of the way. I don’t make it their responsibility to keep me safe. I find my own safety. This is how I drive in my car. Nobody knows I’m here, nobody can see me. I’m that way with people, too. I just assume that they’re not thinking about me…
