The Confidence That Ukraine Must Win its War With Russia Will Not Give Us Peace
Peace will be hard to find if information about the war is not free.
I don’t share the belief that it would be a good thing for Ukraine to win its war with Russia. I don’t have enough information to form an opinion. I believe that our media systems are designed with that purpose in mind.
I don’t know who is at fault for starting the war and what good it will do if either side should win the war. Given the destruction of resources and loss of life on both sides, I don’t think either side can win the war in Ukraine. But I know that there will be a little bit of peace when both sides tire of the war.
Notice here that I’m not saying this is “Putin’s War” as it is so fashionable to do these days. It takes two sides to fight, and Ukraine is just as deep into it as Russia. This is not about blaming the victim. Both sides provided inputs that led up to the war and the invasion. Both sides refused to back down. Both sides continued to escalate until and after Russia invaded Ukraine.
I disagree with a line of thinking that says it’s OK to tell Ukraine to fight from the comfort of a warm home. We’re not the ones fighting this war. They are.
