Ron DeSantis vs Baphomet

Religion is not a talisman that protects against incoherent thinking.

Ron DeSantis wants to make sure that Christian values are installed, I mean, instilled in children through public schools in Florida. Same with the school superintendent of Oklahoma. Same with the Secretary of Education under Trump, Betsy DeVos. All of these people have one thing in common: they want to change other people’s beliefs.

I suppose it wouldn’t be so bad if they actually had good intentions. They certainly say they do. It just seems to me that the Christian protagonists who want to insert Christianity in our public schools want some protection.

It’s really important to them to know that I believe in the same thing they do. They seem to seek the comfort of knowing that I believe what they believe, as if that’s going to save them from something.

Though I can understand their sentiments, I do not want to force my beliefs upon other people. I have no interest in using the power of the state to impose my beliefs upon other people. I don’t want that much responsibility.

Control over other people involves responsibilities that I don’t want to assume. I don’t want to be liable for my mistakes if I have control over other people.
