My Gallows Laugh

I see the trouble ahead. I laugh it off. I forge on.

Sometimes I talk with my mom about what is going on in my personal life. I’d talk about the difficult days, the victories, and a few things in between. When I talk about the trouble I can see coming, I often laugh. She’d say, “Scott, that’s a gallows laugh.” Yeah, I guess I have that. But I don’t think of it that way.
