James Cameron’s Masterclass

Such dedication to the craft of moviemaking is a wonder to behold

Last night I finished watching the Masterclass given by one of the masters of filmmaking, James Cameron. I have long admired his movies, but never really got a sense of who the man behind some of my favorite movies was until I watched his Masterclass.

Masterclass is a streaming site dedicated to the service of teaching by the greats, the masters, in their respective fields. Notable categories are acting, writing, music, cooking, and in this case, film directing. Masterclass isn’t cheap at $180 a year, but it is filled with people willing to share their journeys to success. That is worth the price of admission to me.

What I liked about watching James Cameron describe his work is his intense and unrelenting enthusiasm for storytelling and directing movies. Directors are the men and women behind the camera who can use video or film to tell a story. To me, Cameron is right up there with legendary directors like Sergio Leone, Clint Eastwood, Stanley Kubrick, and Alfred Hitchcock. Cameron is consummate in his study and pursuit of the craft of filmmaking, and he demonstrates his passion for making movies in his Masterclass.
