It’s Hard to Say You’re Wrong 75 Years After Stealing Someone Else’s Land
Israel will never let the Palestinians forget that Israel is in the real estate business.
Here’s an interesting set of facts: As of 31 December 2019, every country in Latin America except Panama, Mexico, and a few island states had recognized Palestine as a sovereign state. 138 of the world’s 193 countries, which represent over three-quarters of the global population, also recognize Palestine as a country. If the world were truly a democracy, Israelis might have to respect Palestine, or maybe even leave for another place to call home.
And since 1948, Israel has done nothing but encroach upon and steal land that belongs to the Palestinians while quietly or…not so quietly…ethnically cleansing the land of the people who once lived there. NPR says we should look at that kind of behavior as normal. That’s why I think of NPR as “resentment radio”.
But what NPR and other media outlets like them don’t want to admit is that the land of Israel is stolen land. NPR receives a very substantial source of funding from foundations built by some of the richest people in the world, and that might explain their bias. Maybe that’s because what we call the United States is land conquered by the people who came from Europe to live here. Americans killed 100 million American Indians to settle the land when it was already settled by someone else.
Some people say that Israel would like to take its land without killing anyone, really. Scout’s honor! But the people living on the land keep challenging Israel to support its claims to the land Israel just takes.
Was Israel created based on sympathies for the Jewish people after the Holocaust? I think so. Did the Palestinians consent to the settlement of Israel? Not that I can tell. NPR will tell me that it’s all very complicated. But if someone steals your land, it’s not that complicated to understand. You’ve been evicted.
And that’s what Israel is doing to the Palestinians when they tell 1.1 million of those people to move.
So I saw this video yesterday. I just could not believe what I was seeing because I was seeing a journalist on TV interviewing a former senior…
