I Follow the guidance from The Artists Way: Write a page every day, first thing in the morning. It’s called The Morning Page. There are no rules to it other than, you keep writing until the page is full. When that’s done, stop. Move on to the next thing.
The idea is to write without regard to your censor, your inhibitions, and to ignore whatever you might be doing to distract yourself. One page is a reasonable goal, too. Make it an exercise in creativity. See what you can write when your mind is blank. Just fill that page once a day and see what comes out. You might be pleasantly surprised.
The Artists Way also includes a nice little prayer that I have printed and taped to my wall, just above my monitor:
I will take care of the quantity.
You will take care of the quality.
That is what works for me. The Morning Page is my warmup exercise to the main event, a post on Medium. Try it and see what happens.
