How the “Free Press” Has Quietly Failed Us in Ukraine

Notice the dearth of stories about the war in Ukraine when Russia wins for a day.

Lately, George Santos has made a splash in the news. The GOP is embarrassed that Santos lied about his career, his money, and his history. He freely admitted that he had pranked his supporters, his voters, and the government.

But there is something else. A small town newspaper picked up that story 4 months before the election. That suggests some very powerful interests managed to suppress the Santos story until after the election.

Santos might actually have a conscience. It’s just big enough to admit his error, but not big enough to resign.

I see a similar story in the collapse of the housing bubble in 2008. Six people whom we would now call “economists” were sounding alarms as early as 2001. They could see the bubble building, and the lack of economic support to sustain it, and they could articulate the path to disaster. The press mostly did not report it. They ignored it while their advertisers made money.

It’s happening again with Joe Biden’s Documentgate. Two searches have recovered classified documents at his former office at a think tank. That former office was used by Biden during his time as vice president of the United States. He’s now president. The timing is interesting.

Somebody knew the documents had been removed and who had them. We know this because the government tracks the documents with a checkout system. Someone had access to the checkout logs and could have reported that tip anonymously, but did not. At least, not until after the mid-term elections, and long after the 2020 elections. Democrats are embarrassed, but not enough to suggest impeachment.

Maye Joe is planning an early retirement. It’s hard to tell.

Now we come to the war in Ukraine. They’ve been telling us for almost a year that Ukraine is winning the war. Ukraine’s military has been “liberating” cities. Then they lost Bakhmut. Oh, wait. They’re losing Bakhmut. And they’re still losing Soledar. They tell us that they’re still fighting in Soledar.
